Moreton Energy Coal Project

An earlier blog posting identified the company Lodestone as having  bought farm-in agreements on three EPCs.  The company's Annual Report shows that they have purchased an additional EPC and are in the process of approval for another one.

  1. Dear Debbie,
It seems from my limited enquiries that the plans for coal mining in the Scenic Rim are more extensive and advanced than one would think from information released to the public or in the papers.
From what I can see most of the Scenic Rim is now under coal exploration permits owned by several companies with plans to extract coal or gas by various means, including tunnelling, open cut mining and coal seam gas extraction. The latter reqiuires alot of water and produces alot of waste water contaminated with salt and other impurities.
Some of the exploration started years ago and I have gained the impression some has been done by bores being drilled to check for groundwater levels and quality.
Could there be an agenda to use water from the Wyalong dam for coal mining I think is a reasonable question.

  2. Dear Bill, I note with interest this comment mirrors your 'letter to the editor' in this week's Beaudesert Times. We have very detailed maps of the areas covered by the EPCs. Late last year requests to the public to notify us of drilling activity observed on public or private land went virtually unheeded except for three confirmed sightings. I think that Lodestone Energy are very serious about future extractions and will be pushing the 'low-sulphur' content of these deposits in their bids for extraction permits.
